The following information is an administrator and teacher guide for the Nearpod LTI 1.3 integration for Schoology. In this article you will also find steps to complete the following tasks.

Adding Nearpod to Schoology as an Admin
LTI 1.1 Schoology user migrating to LTI 1.3 Schoology integration
Important: It’s important to do this first to reduce confusion between the two separate integrations that are available.
These instructions are for setting up LTI 1.3 for schools and districts that have used Nearpod for LTI 1.1 in the past. This step will remove the LTI 1.1 Nearpod app from your LMS and from the courses. This will remove deep links created through Nearpod LTI 1.1
Removing the 1.1 integration
- Sign into Schoology as an LMS administrator
- Click the App Center icon then select ‘App Center’
- Click ‘Organization Apps’ at the top of the screen
- Locate the Nearpod app and click ‘X’ button
- Click Submit, in the pop-up for removing the app.
**This will remove the LTI 1.1 app from all the courses.
Now you can follow the instructions for first time Schoology integrations, directly below starting at ‘Install the Nearpod App.’
First time Schoology integration with Nearpod
These instructions are for setting up LTI 1.3 for schools and districts that have not used Nearpod for LTI 1.1 in the past. If you previously used Nearpod LTI 1.1 integration please use these steps here.
Installing the Nearpod App in Schoology
- Sign into Schoology as an LMS administrator
- Click the App Center icon then select ‘App Center’
- Find Nearpod LTI 1.3 in the Schoology App Center
- Select ‘Install LIT 1.3 App’
- Agree to the installation consent pop-ups.
- Click Continue, for the next pop-up regarding our deep linking feature.
- Click on ‘Organization’, for the next pop-up. We recommend adding the Nearpod LTI 1.3 app to the entire organization, so teachers can use the app in their classes.
- ‘Install for me’ would be recommended for testing the integration.
- Once you have installed the app, click on “Configure” from the Organization Apps page.
- On this page, there are two important steps.
- First, confirm the following four custom parameters are in the box provided. If not, copy the four custom parameters and and add it into the box provided.
- schoology_user_uuid=$User.id
- schoology_course_uuid=$com.schoology.CourseSection.id
- resource_link_history=$ResourceLink.id.history
- context_history=$Context.id.history
- Second, take note of the Deployment ID on this page. The Deployment ID is needed in the next step in Nearpod’s LMS Setup Page.
- First, confirm the following four custom parameters are in the box provided. If not, copy the four custom parameters and and add it into the box provided.
- Don’t forget to save your changes!
Setup Integration in Nearpod
- In a new window, open nearpod.com and sign into your District or School admin account.
- In the left navigation, select Manage Nearpod
- In the left navigation, select LMS Integration Setup
- In the top right corner, click on + New Integration
- In the pop-up that appears, select your LMS. In this case Schoology.
- Provide the information in the form:
- Environment - this will likely be Production unless you are testing the integration with this setup
- Domain URL - Recommended: https://app.schoology.com/
- Client ID - 6695120929
- Deployment ID - this ID comes from the Schoology steps directly above. If you still have Schoology open in the other window, copy and paste the ID into the Nearpod form.
- When the form is completed click Save
Complete App Install for Organization in Schoology
- In the browser window with Schoology open, click on ‘Install/Remove’
- Or Sign into Schoology as an LMS administrator, click the App Center icon, then select ‘App Center’ and select ‘Organization Apps’ from the top. Then click on ‘Install/Remove’.
- Select where you would like ‘Nearpod LTI 1.3’ to appear in Schoology. Recommendation in provided screen shot.
3. Don’t forget to click ‘Submit’!
The Nearpod setup for LTI 1.3 in Schoology is now complete!
Linking Nearpod lessons to Schoology as an Instructor
With LTI 1.3, there are several options for creating deep links or assignment links directly to a Nearpod lesson for your students. Follow the instructions below for the method that best suits your teaching style and Schoology class structure.
Adding Nearpod Lessons to Schoology
In these steps, we will provide instructions to add a direct link from the Schoology class to a Nearpod lesson. This is often referred to as an assignment link or deep link. This is the best experience for a student, allowing the student to directly access the lesson for the day.
Add Materials
- As a teacher, from the left navigation menu click on Materials, and then on ‘Add Materials’
- From the dropdown menu, locate Nearpod LTI 1.3
- A pop-up will appear that will launch Nearpod.
- If you have not launched Nearpod from Schoology before, you will be asked to sign-in to your Nearpod account.
- If you have signed in previously, your My Lessons page will show in the Schoology pop-up.
- From the My Lessons page select either Live Participation or Student Paced when hovering over the lesson you want to teach.

Add Assignment
- As a teacher, from the left navigation menu click on Materials, and then on ‘Add Materials’
- From the dropdown menu, select Add Assignment
- In the description box, select ‘Insert Content’
- A pop-up will appear that will launch Nearpod.
- If you have not launched Nearpod from Schoology before, you will be asked to sign-in to your Nearpod account.
- If you have signed in previously, your My Lessons page will show in the Schoology pop-up.
From the My Lessons page select either ‘Live Participation’ or ‘Student Paced’ when hovering over the lesson you want to teach.
- If you do not have any lessons in your Nearpod account then click on Nearpod LTI 1.3 from the left Navigation in the class shell.
- Nearpod LTI 1.3 from the navigation allows teachers access to all of Nearpod’s amazing program content, lesson creation tools and lesson settings.
Schoology Course Copy Support
With Course Copy for LTI 1.3 teachers will save time throughout the school year.
When an LMS course is copied, Nearpod will start a new session and the post-session report will only include the new group of students.
To ensure the session is ready for students to use, click on the Nearpod lesson from your LMS course. When this message appears, the Nearpod new session has started and is ready for students and co-teachers!
It is recommended that teachers open the Nearpod sessions after a course or an assignment is copied so this step is not missed. This is most important for Student-Paced lessons. Live lessons should be started when it’s time to teach.
- Student-Paced lesson expiration is 365 days (about 12 months).
- Live lesson expiration is 14 days (about 2 weeks).
If you are in an active course and your students are reporting “Uh Oh! Your teacher needs to launch the lesson,” complete the following steps.
- From your LMS course, click on the Nearpod lesson.
- If the lesson is set to launch in a new window, click the lesson so it launches in the new window and look for the success message.
Accessing Nearpod as a Teacher
- As a teacher, select a class
- Locate and select ‘Nearpod LTI 1.3’ from the left navigation
- Launching Nearpod from here will provide access to all of Nearpod’s amazing program content, lesson creation tools and lesson settings.
Accessing Nearpod Lesson as a Student
- As a student, select a class
- Click on an assignment, Nearpod will appear inside of Schoology or open in a new window.
- Click on the SSO option your school requires, or click on Guest access
- Nearpod access codes are not needed in the Schoology integration! 🎉
Accessing Nearpod as a Student
- As a student, select a class
- Click on Nearpod from the LMS navigation. (This isn’t always available to students, ask your teacher.)
- Click on the SSO option your school requires.
