Lesson Collaboration in Nearpod provides teachers with the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues, within your school or district Nearpod Premium License, on the creation or editing of any Nearpod lesson. The owner of a Nearpod can share it with a colleague within their account and provide them with various permissions depending on how the collaboration will be accomplished. Are you going to be reviewing a shared lesson or will each collaborator be offering ideas and editing parts of the lesson? The choice is yours.

Collaborator Roles
The lesson owner is
- The original person who shared the lesson with other collaborators.
- The only user who can remove, change the permission level, or add any collaborator on their license.
- The only user who can delete a lesson. Other collaborators will receive a duplicate version of the lesson.
- The only user who can remove or change the lesson owner’s permissions.
Collaborators with Editor Permission can
- Make edits to the lesson (one user at a time) that will be seen by the lesson owner and all other lesson collaborators.
- Share the lesson with editor or viewer permission or send users a copy of the lesson. They cannot change the permission level of the lesson owner (the user who created the lesson).
- Remove collaborators from the lesson who have editor or viewer permission. They cannot remove the lesson owner.
- If the editor deletes the lesson it will remove it for that user only. It will not affect the lesson for any other collaborators or the lesson owner.
Collaborators with Viewer Permission can
- Not see the option to edit the lesson on the lesson tile in My Lessons.
- Share the lesson with viewer permission only or send users a copy of the lesson.
- Remove collaborators from the lesson who also have viewer permission.
- If the viewer deletes the lesson it will remove it for that user only. It will not affect the lesson for any other collaborators or the lesson owner.
Assigning Collaborator Permission levels
Editor: If you share a lesson with ‘can edit’ permission, your colleague can edit the same version of the lesson you shared with them. Note: Only one person can edit a lesson at a time.
Viewer: If you share a lesson with ‘can edit’ permission, your colleague will see all edits on the lesson made by you or any other collaborators with editor permission.
Sharing a Lesson:
- Click ‘Share a lesson’ from the triple dots on a lesson tile in My Lessons or the Lesson Builder
- In the Share Modal, you can share the lesson by email or copy link (URL).
- Share via email: Type your colleague(s) emails in the text box. You can change the permission level by clicking on the dropdown next to the email text box. When you are ready to share click ‘Share Lesson’.
- If you share a lesson with multiple colleagues at once, they will receive the same sharing permission level you chose. If you want different colleagues to have different collaborator levels, share the lesson with them one at a time so you can change the collaborator level.
- When you share via email, the collaborator will receive an email and the lesson will appear on their My Lessons page.
- Share via Share link: Click the blue ‘Copy Link’ button in the URL box. You can paste it in an email, document, or wherever you want your colleagues to be able to access it from. You can change the permission level by clicking on the dropdown next to the Share link box.
Note: “Send a Copy” shares a duplicate version of the lesson. The colleague the lesson is shared with is not a collaborator. Any changes made to the lesson you shared with them will not be seen by them and any changes they make to the lesson will not be seen by you. Unlike collaborators, you can share a copy of the lesson with Nearpod users who are not on your license.
Removing Collaborators from a Lesson
1. To remove a collaborator, open the Share Modal.
2. Select the drop down next to the user you want to remove.
3. Click remove.
4. The collaborator who was removed will have access to a duplicate version of the lesson. They will not see any edits made to the lesson they were removed from and any edits they make to the lesson will not be seen by other collaborators.
Changing Collaborator Permission Levels
- To change a collaborator permission level, open the Share Modal.
- Select the drop down next to the user for which you want to change permission level.
- Select a new permission level
What happens if the lesson owner and/or collaborators are downgraded?
If a lesson owner is downgraded to a B2C license, all collaborators will have a copy of the lesson.
If a collaborator is downgraded to a B2C license, they will have a copy of the lesson and will be removed as a collaborator.
Note: Whether the user has access to the copy of the lesson is based on the archiving rules in downgrades (see bullet point 3 under Library Storage).
